People arrive as strangers and leave as part of something. Not because anyone told them what to think. But because they finally had the space to think it together.
We’re at a pivotal juncture, a time of transformation.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Indigenous knowledge. Living solutions.
Rematriated Voices is a documentary series on PBS exploring Haudenosaunee values — the Indigenous knowledge, philosophy, and ways of being that have shaped this land for thousands of years.
These aren’t historical stories. They’re solutions. To the problems we’re all living with right now.
Watch together. Discuss together. Leave with something you couldn’t get from watching alone.
THE EPISODES
Five conversations. One living framework.
01
Eve Meets Sky Woman
Mohawk Bear Clan Mother Louise “Mommabear” McDonald Herne and historian and activist Sally Roesch Wagner contrast colonial and Indigenous Creation stories, challenging listeners to rethink power, creation, and the role of women in foundational narratives.
02
Hidden Roots of Democracy
Traditional Haudenosaunee titleholders, Brennen Ferguson, Sandra Fox, Louise “Mommabear” McDonald Herne, and Spencer Lyons trace the origins and workings of Haudenosaunee governance that helped shape American democracy. These traditional leaders also highlight fundamental Haudenosaunee principles that were left out of the U.S. Constitution.
03
First Environment
Mohawk midwife Katsi Cook and Potawatami botanist and author Robin Wall Kimmerer center Indigenous ecological knowledge and our original relationship with the Earth as sacred.
04
Matrilineal Men
Brennen Ferguson, Neal Powless, and Spencer Lyons, highlight Haudenosaunee men who uphold matrilineal values, demonstrating the strength of relational masculinity rooted in responsibility, care, and balance.
05
Mother Law & Doctrine of Discovery
Louise McDonald Herne, Sarah Bradley, Brittany Koteles, and Beverly Jacobs, explore how Haudenosaunee women continue to uphold and practice "Mother Law" in resistance to colonial systems like the Doctrine of Discovery, centering sovereignty, land, and gendered justice.
